Reunion Jammers return to Portsmouth by Popular Demand
|
PHS CLASS OF 1968, 40TH REUNION
The Reunion Committee announced the entertainment program for the 40th Reunion to be held over the Columbus Day Weekend. Back by popular demand, the PHS Reunion Jammers will memory-transport us back to the sixties. The group combines the members of the best PHS garage bands of 1965 - 1968. Also returning are the seasoned professional musicians of "City Heat". During the PHS Class of 1967 Reunion last year (2007) these two groups combined to keep classmates on the dance floor way beyond Wilson Pickett's "Midnight Hour". Bring your dancin' shoes!

PHS Class of 1967 Reunion Was A Great Success
Over two hundred sixties rock-and-rollers attended the PHS Class of 1967 40th Reunion on September 7 and 8, 2007. The attendance was above expectations. The Friday night early reunion was attended by about 100 people who spent the evening catching up on old times. The class reunion on Saturday night was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Classmates were treated to the music of City Heat and their professional vocalist, Sweetness. After 90 minutes, the stage was offered to our talented classmates, all musicians from our hometown sixties garage band days. We were blessed with the opportunity to hear our favorite sixties songs played by the classmates who played those same songs at our high school dances. The first song brought classmates to the dance floor that became more crowded with each popular sixties hit such as Gloria, Hang on Sloopy, Monkey Time, Brown-Eyed Girl, and a host of others. After the first song, the dance floor was packed....and stayed that way. The Reunion Committee wants to thank Ron Hadsell for arranging the appearance of City Heat and Sweetness. Special thanks also go to the "boys in the band" who practiced in small groups in various locations in the country, emerging to provide a cohesive group of talent that flashed our fellow classmates back to the sixties one more time. As we now look toward the 45th reunion, classmates are urged to keep us informed about changes in address and email. Dislcaimer: The Reunion Committee is not responsible for leg cramps and sore feet from three hours of dancing at our age. We are also not responsible for sore throats from singing every word aloud to every song.

Photographs from the PHS Class of 1967 Reunion are now available on the website at "Trojan Photos". More photos are on the way. As a special treat, we have obtained class photographs of the Class of 1967 and 1968 and have posted them as well. You can also review newspaper clips, business ads, and other sixties era photos. Special thanks to those who submitted photos for the website. We can now stroll (Stroll - that was a dance wasn't it?) down memory lane from the comfort of our desk, laptop, Iphone, multi-media center, etc... whatever.

1967 Biker Gang Revealed at Reunion
Research in the old photos of the Class of 1967 revealed the first meeting of one of Portsmouth's most famous biker gangs. It's our understanding that most members of this gang are now in the Witness Protection Program.

What Is That Song??
The current theme song on the PHS Class of 1967 Website is "Sunshine of Your Love" by Cream. This song was one of the top tunes in 1968 and is played on the website to celebrate the 40th Reunion of the Portsmouth High School Class of 1968. This song was rated by Rolling Stone magazine as the 65th greatest song of all time, reaching #5 in 1968. You never know...as we dance and remember the sixties at the reunion, we may begin singing "It's getting near dawn......". For the youngsters, this song is also available in the "Guitar Hero" video game series.

Cub Scout Pack 38 Produces 2 Psychologists - What Went Wrong?
Against all odds and statistics, Highland School Cub Scout Pack 38 produced two psychologists in the same den. Theories regarding this rare event suggest it may be related to 1) exposure to second-hand radiation from the Piketon atomic facility, 2) a diet consisting of fish caught in the Ohio River, and 3) brain trauma from the high-flying swing sets at Highland Elementary School. If you know the names of all the Cub Scouts in the photo, please contact the Webmaster.
